The top may be a little inconvenient to use but that is minor. With others you can feel the warmth/cold on the outside when you hold it and the inside doesn't ring quite the same. This is the third Nissan mug I have owned and they are all great. This is the best mug for keeping your beverage (mainly coffee for me) hot or cold (5+ hrs. Besides, if you happen to knock the mug over with the lid on you doen't have a spill. The inside is isolated from the outside shell. min). You can tell because when you tap the inside with a spoon it rings.
OF COURSE I bought these for coffee. If I want to carry hot soup I'll buy a thermos. It's cockeyed, which only leads me to believe it's a manufacturing error. Unfortunately for me I'm the recipient of two leaky mugs. I've bought two of these mugs. It's unacceptable for a mug of this price and supposed quality to ever leak. I've tried tightening it judiciously and firm, both ways they leaked. They both leaked coffee all over my shirt and the mug. The lid doesn't seat evenly on the mug, so of course it's going to leak.
BUT.the threads used to twist the regular lid on are so thin that it's easy to overtwist it on and end up with dribbles down ones front as one drinks, a serious design flaw IMHO, especially since I have never been able to overtwist the lid on my old one. I've owned the antique predecessor to this product for many years. Back to the drawing board, Thermos.and the original lid design. Doesn't happen with the extra lid since it has a gasket. Thought it would be nice to upgrade. Having the extra lid that is insulated and has no sipping holes is a great addition, keeps contents hot for much longer than the regular sipping lid.
I have 2 now for work each day, I make my drinks at 7.30am and some days it is 2pm or later when I get to the second one and it is still hot. Seriously, this is really the best mug ever. If you are tired of trying coffee mugs and always being dissapointed then get this mug and you won't have to shop again. These also hold a lot more than your average cup, probably because other mugs don't stay as hot there is no point in making them bigger - who wants 6oz of hot coffee then 10oz of cold. My first one only had to be replaced after it was run over by a car and the base came off. This mug will keep your drinks hot for hours, swop lids and you can drink then swop back and you can throw it on the back seat or where ever you want and it won't spill or leak.
I'm tossing it and regret the $20.00 lost. It constantly leaks to the side of the lid, usually all over my clothes. The size on this is ok and it certainly keeps your coffee hot. Unfortuntely the screw top lid is not an actual screw but rather a partial screw, where 1/2 twist closes it and 3/4 twist pops the seal.
